WHO WE’VE HELPED

At Dressability, sustainability isn’t just about recycling, it’s about reimagining what can be done with skill, care and purpose. For more than a decade, our team has been quietly running a project that helps people stay warm while reducing textile waste.

We have formed relationships with corporate companies that send us batches of branded jackets, sweatshirts and coats which can no longer be used as part of their business. Rather than pay to have these perfectly good garments destroyed or incinerated, Dressability gives them a new life.

Our skilled sewing team carefully remove company logos and patches, matching each fabric and stitch to make the repair as seamless as possible. The process is detailed and precise, every colour and texture must align perfectly, and on average, one in every ten garments is sacrificed to repair the others.

When Michelle arrived at Dressability with a very special visitor in her bag, we knew this wasn’t an ordinary repair request. Inside was Freddie – a much-loved, specialist hand puppet with hands that sign.

Freddie plays a vital role in helping Michelle’s daughter, Rachel, to communicate and express emotions. Rachel was born with cerebral palsy and global learning delay, and for over a decade she and her family have been valued clients of Dressability. Freddie has become an important part of Rachel’s world – a tool for learning, laughter and connection.

Unlike a regular toy, Freddie is a high-quality communication aid designed to help children who find it difficult to engage with others or express how they feel. Through Freddie, Rachel can sign, wave, laugh, dance and show when she’s happy or sad – things that words alone can’t always capture.

A Love of Theatre, a Room Full of Joy.

Sam, aged 34, lives with both Down syndrome and autism. He has a long-standing love of theatre and performing arts, regularly attending shows with his family. Following the sad loss of his sister, Sam’s mum, Leslye Russell-Pierce, decided to redecorate his bedroom as a tribute to his passion and to bring him some comfort during a difficult time.

Leslye found the perfect duvet cover – one featuring posters from the films and theatre productions Sam has seen. However, the design was only available in a king size and had to be imported from America. Wanting it to fit his single bed, she turned to Dressability for help.
