WHO WE’VE HELPED

Theo was born in the year 2000 with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and partial deafness. Theo began using Dressability’s service when he was at secondary school, as he needed to be able to dress himself independently.

Being able to use the toilet independently was a priority for Theo, recognising this Dressability were able to trial several different materials and fastenings before settling on an option that really worked for him.

Eve began using Dressability when she found herself with a ‘wardrobe full of clothes she couldn’t wear’. As she aged, Eve’s body shape and posture has gradually changed, leaving her unhappy with the fit of many of her garments. As someone who takes pride in her appearance Eve always likes to look and feel her best.

At her initial consultation Eve was able to bring in her existing garments, along with new pieces to discuss how we could help her feel smart and confident again in her clothes.

After discrete adaptations to a very special dress enabled Hannah to enjoy acting as Bridesmaid to a family friend in 2005, Dressability have been helping Hannah with her complex clothing requirements ever since. 

Following a brain injury in 2003, Hannah, now 25 was left with severe Cerebral Palsy and is now entirely dependent on help with daily living. Unable to manage putting clothes on herself, Hannah has to be dressed on a changing table, whilst the specific challenges she faces mean that her clothing needs to be able to accommodate feeding tubes, pads etc. 

To ensure that Terry’s clothing fits his small stature, the team at Dressability expertly shorten his trousers, shirts (including the sleeves) and knitwear. 

Terry, who was born between the World Wars and served on HMS Victorious, a Royal Navy aircraft, carrier, remains “most particular about his dress” and ranks “looking smart” as a priority!

At 90 Terry has outlived a number of his friends and relatives but through access to clothing which is adapted to create a perfect fit, Terry maintains a busy diary and enjoys positive feedback on his carefully chosen outfit choices.

Harry is 10 and has a diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome with anxiety.  Part of Harry’s condition is a severe sensitivity to wearing clothing that fits snugly around his waist, making school uniform requirements a challenge!

When forced to wear trousers, Harry’s anxiety causes him difficulties concentrating or being able to settle and inevitably he was experiencing difficulties and becoming very unhappy in School, with impact on his learning and that of his peers.

Denim dungarees, in which Harry felt relaxed and comfortable, represented a solution at home and Harry’s parents therefore approached Dressability to ask whether dungarees could be made to comply with school uniform requirements.

Young Mum, Annabel who suffered a serious brain injury in 2006 following an accident whilst at University, approached Dressability following the birth of her son in 2016, to ask if we might be able to help with enabling her to cope with the demands of a new baby.

Annabel has limited dexterity meaning she struggles with fastenings and although she wanted to nurse her baby, was concerned the small clips on nursing bras might make this difficult.  Knowing the very young can occasionally be rather impatient – and determined to make it possible for Annabel to feed her baby, the team at Dressability decided that replacing fiddly hooks and eyes with magnets might offer the best solution.
