At Dressability, sustainability isn’t just about recycling, it’s about reimagining what can be done with skill, care and purpose. For more than a decade, our team has been quietly running a project that helps people stay warm while reducing textile waste.
We have formed relationships with corporate companies that send us batches of branded jackets, sweatshirts and coats which can no longer be used as part of their business. Rather than pay to have these perfectly good garments destroyed or incinerated, Dressability gives them a new life.
Our skilled sewing team carefully remove company logos and patches, matching each fabric and stitch to make the repair as seamless as possible. The process is detailed and precise, every colour and texture must align perfectly, and on average, one in every ten garments is sacrificed to repair the others.
Once restored, the de-branded clothing is passed on to organisations such as Swindon Night Shelter, who help distribute the items to people in need. These garments end up helping people all over the UK.
It’s a simple but powerful idea. Instead of waste, we create warmth. Instead of disposal, we create dignity.
This initiative continues to be supported by funders who recognise its environmental and social value, preventing waste, reducing carbon impact, and helping communities through the coldest months.
Every coat, jacket or sweatshirt that passes through Dressability’s hands becomes part of a wider story: one of compassion, craftsmanship and sustainability in action.
