Dressability are looking for individuals or teams of people to take part in a fundraising run.
We have secured five places in the Virtual 2021 Vitality London 10k to take place between 29th May and 6th June 2021.
Our only requirement is, a minimum of £50 sponsorship is raised per place for this event.

Dressability’s very own Jim Sinclair, a Trustee of the charity, recently approached the team to see if they could help in strengthening a pair of his gloves which had become worn from use when handling his wheelchair in rough terrain as the tyres required for this activity are knobbly and his gloves needed to be harder wearing.
Gloves do wear however, so having discussed possible options with Sharon and Angela at Dressability, they suggested trying Kevlar, a synthetic lightweight fibre material, that delivers high tension strength for improved protection and performance. Dressability use this material for other client’s clothing when hard wearing protection is required.
Angela replaced the palm of the gloves with the Kevlar to be more robust in use with no reduction in the comfort of the gloves, which looked like new when Angela had finished refurbing.

SEAMSTRESSES are working hard to tackle period poverty in Ghana.
Dressability and Action Through Enterprise, have teamed up to give girls and women hygienic, reusable and lasting products for their period.
Leela Shanti is the programmes and development manager of ATE.
She said: “We’ve been working in a small rural area in the upper west of Ghana.
“It’s incredibly neglected and the work we’re doing is creating opportunities for children and adults. We have three flagship programmes, one is to educate, small business development, and special needs awareness programme.
“We’ve been aware through the pandemic of the disproportionate impact on girls and women when it comes to attending school. Sanitary pads are a luxury item, and the families we work with really struggle to send girls to school because they can’t afford them.
“Some of our workshops revealed that girls there have very little understanding as to why they menstruate, it’s considered shameful and they’re not supported with the sanitary items they need.”
Executive CEO Sarah Gardner said: “With Dressability we found ourselves with a brilliant opportunity to make a significant difference, and we relish doing just that.”
Dressability – based in Westmead Drive – will be using unused material to make the sanitary pads. These will be trialled by some of the girls in Ghana before they are distributed to all of the students.
The charity is asking people to donate unused, clean, towels to make the sustainable project possible.
Dressability manager Sharon Tombs said: “It’s a time to spread good will, our volunteers are very keen in doing projects that make a difference, and I think this will.
“It depends on how many donations we receive on how many we can make and how many girls and women we can help.
“It would be lovely if there’s a shop out there that has stock that we can have, that would make a huge difference.
“It’s such a good project, we’ve done a lot for the local community but not anything internationally. I know the charity Action Through Enterprise and I heard about what they were doing, I thought it would be good to do something different and we got in touch.”

A huge thank you to FatFace for another delivery of clothing for us to alter and adapt for samples of adapted clothing to send to organisations who may need our services.
Dressability has always had challenges when getting our services known and understood to those who may need it, which is crazy as there must be so many individuals we can help.
We adapt clothing not just for those with physical restrictions but for those, with conditions that make dressing difficult, for example, doing up fiddly buttons can be a struggle for a lot of people who may, for example, have arthritis. By adapting the buttons to have hidden magnets, means individuals can dress independently and with ease…
Both young and old can benefit from our services and having adapted clothing doesn’t mean to say that they can’t keep their own individual styling! We ask our clients to bring us their new clothing and we will adapt it to suit their needs.
