The Story of Sam

A Love of Theatre, a Room Full of Joy.

Sam, aged 34, lives with both Down syndrome and autism. He has a long-standing love of theatre and performing arts, regularly attending shows with his family. Following the sad loss of his sister, Sam’s mum, Leslye Russell-Pierce, decided to redecorate his bedroom as a tribute to his passion and to bring him some comfort during a difficult time.

Leslye found the perfect duvet cover – one featuring posters from the films and theatre productions Sam has seen. However, the design was only available in a king size and had to be imported from America. Wanting it to fit his single bed, she turned to Dressability for help.

Although this type of project falls outside our usual scope of clothing adaptations, our team was happy to assist a long-term client with a heartfelt request. The duvet was carefully resized to a single, and two matching pillowcases were created to complete the look.

The result is a beautifully themed bedroom that celebrates everything Sam loves about the stage. He enjoys pointing to each image and recalling the performances, proudly showing how his bedding and wall decorations match. His next show? Mamma Mia!

This small act of adaptation has brought Sam and his family great joy, demonstrating that even modest changes can make a meaningful difference.
